PRODUCT OVERVIEW

What it is and how it works

The Encore ESP is a countertop, conical-burr grinder that prepares loose coffee grounds. Baratza divides its numbered adjustment range into settings 1–20 for espresso and 21–40 for filter coffee, French press, and cold brew.

It has a quick-release M2 steel burr for routine cleaning and a dosing cup intended to transfer grounds to a portafilter. Baratza lists a 54 mm portafilter cup and an included adapter for 58 mm portafilters.

CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY

Compatibility at a glance

This is a separate grinder, not a machine-specific attachment. Compatibility depends on whether your brewer accepts loose grounds and whether the included dosing cup fits your portafilter.

01

Brewers that accept loose grounds

Use the grounds with an espresso machine, drip brewer, pour-over, French press, or other brewer that accepts pre-ground coffee. Follow that brewer’s manual for its basket and grind requirements.

02

Portafilters

Baratza specifies a 54 mm dosing cup and includes a 58 mm adapter. If your portafilter uses another size, confirm fit before relying on the cup; you can still transfer grounds without docking the cup.

03

Capsule and built-in grinder machines

The Encore ESP does not connect to a machine or replace its built-in grinder. Use loose grounds in a capsule or automatic machine only when that exact model has a manufacturer-approved ground-coffee option.

PRACTICAL GUIDE

Choosing a starting point

  1. For espresso, start in the espresso range (1–20) and adjust in small steps to suit the coffee and machine. A grinder setting is only a starting point; it does not guarantee a particular extraction time.
  2. For filter, French press, or cold brew, start within 21–40 and adjust to your recipe and taste.
  3. Unplug the grinder before cleaning. Follow Baratza’s care instructions for removing and cleaning the burr; do not rinse the motor housing.
