PRODUCT OVERVIEW

What it is and how it works

Urnex describes Cafiza powder as a cleaner for coffee residue and oils in espresso-machine groupheads, valves, and lines. Its page also gives a soaking method for portafilters, baskets, screens, and other removable parts.

Cafiza is not a descaler. It does not remove mineral scale, and it should not be treated as a universal cleaner for capsule machines, grinders, milk systems, or automatic coffee-machine circuits.

CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY

Compatibility at a glance

Compatibility depends on the exact espresso machine’s cleaning instructions. Use backflush directions only if the machine has the required blind filter and its manual allows detergent backflushing.

01

Traditional espresso machines

Urnex gives grouphead backflush instructions for espresso machines equipped for that procedure. Your own manual must permit cleaning powder and identify the correct basket, cycle, and rinse process.

02

Removable espresso parts

Urnex lists portafilters, baskets, screens, and other removable parts for a soaking solution. Do not submerge the portafilter handle; rinse the parts with fresh water after soaking.

03

Capsule and super-automatic machines

Do not assume Cafiza powder is suitable for a capsule or bean-to-cup machine. Use it in internal cleaning cycles only if that exact manufacturer manual explicitly directs it.

PRACTICAL GUIDE

Urnex directions (only when your manual allows them)

  1. Backflush method: place a blind filter in the portafilter and add up to ½ teaspoon (3 g). Run the brew cycle for 10 seconds, stop for 10 seconds, and repeat five times.
  2. Remove the portafilter, rinse it, and run water through the group. Then repeat the 10-second-on / 10-second-off cycle five times with no cleaner. Replace the blind filter with a standard basket, pull one espresso, and discard it rather than drinking it.
  3. Parts soak: dissolve 6 g of powder per liter of hot water and soak compatible removable parts for 30 minutes. Do not submerge a portafilter handle; rinse parts with fresh water afterward.
